Kathleen Bridge, Detroit MI Nominated by her niece, Bridgette Sparkman of Wyandotte MI I owe my life to my Aunt Kathy. When my parents were teenagers with drug problems and could no longer take care of me, my Aunt Kathy took me in. While also taking care of my grandparents (now deceased), she struggled so that I had a good life, health care and a better education. My aunt worked two jobs to send me to Shrine Catholic High School and told me that we couldn't afford college, but that hopefully with the education from Shrine I would do well and get a scholarship. And that is just what happened! Later, I also received a scholarship to law school. She put me on her health insurance and paid 50% of all of my health care, including braces, reminding me that anyone who smiled as much as I did, needed nice teeth. She drove the same car for 10 years and lived in a one bedroom apartment, giving her home to my grandparents when they could no longer live in their own two story house. She has worked with at-risk youth for the city of Detroit for the last 30 years, giving of herself so generously and graciously. I know I am not the only one who has been forever changed because Kathy Bridge is in the world. I owe her my life.
